Summary/Abstract: The paper reviews the specifics of the Czech language in electronic communications, especially in chat messaging. The types of chats are listed. Also, the features of public chat commu-nication are discussed: anonymity and the close similarity to the spoken language, the usage of foreign words and numbers instead of letters and the new form of non-verbal communication – the emoticons. The paper briefly analyzes the language used in chats in terms of phonetics, morpholo-gy, syntax and lexis
