Summary/Abstract: The knowledge of a nation is closely related to the knowledge of its culture. It is the language that is the instrument which enables the creation of a detailed picture of the values, tradi-tions, and beliefs of a certain people. Literature is additionally intertwined with the process of cul-ture acquisition. Names and nicknames in Bulgarian literature are an example of symbolism and therefore, this paper is an attempt to overview the anthroponyms and nicknames in “Nemili-Nedragi” by Ivan Vazov. Symbolic names are to be semantically analyzed and the nicknames will be categorized in accordance with their symbolic meaning.
