Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the intertextuality as one of the useful and yet strangely vague the-oretical concepts. First, I will describe the origin of the term intertextuality and various definitions currently in use. I will present the theories of Julia Kristeva and Mikhail Bakhtin. Second, I will pro-vide some examples in literature because intertextuality is one of the most commonly used terms in contemporary literary theory.
