Summary/Abstract: This presentation makes use of the results of an interview research among former party activists and state functionaries. The fact that the communicative memory today focuses upon the researched era, and raises the issue of responsibility, forces the rememberer to rework the past. One can talk with former party functionaries for long hours about how they think about the former party organization, about people taking part in it, maybe their former self, but not about events and concrete situations. The hardest is to find out about past daily duties. The rememberers include themselves into the discourses of communicative memory. We have to wait for the saeculum (Assmann) to pass, in order that the communicative memory should be freed of these dynamics, and transform into cultural memory.
