Summary/Abstract: The beginning of the 21st century constitutes a unique period of time in the evolution of the human race. This uniqueness manifests in the fact that we are currently undergoing one of the most significant social revolutions in the history of civilization – the Age Revolution. The increase in the average life span by 30 years constitutes a crowning achievement in the evolution of humanity, but at the same time, this phenomenon brings complex and inevitable consequences. That is why it is necessary to answer the question: are we – the society in general, the local society, economy, infrastructure and environment – prepared to face them? In the recent years, it has been possible to observe an increase in the interest in designing strategies and plans as well as implementing measures which serve to minimize the negative effects of the aging process. One of the most interesting initiatives has been undertaken in Tychy (Silesia), where a network of Centers for Pensioner Support has been established. Three such centers, functioning in cooperation with three Roman Catholic churches in Tychy, provide continuous support for the elderly who feel lonely, suffer from various health problems or want to remain active members of the society. The article presents the details of this successful attempt at activating the elderly, based on the cooperation of the local government, non-governmental organizations, and the members of the local communities.
