Summary/Abstract: This paper will provide an overview of the fundamental principles of sound and the factors that determine our audio perception. The conversion of analog signals to digital form also known as „A/D conversion.” has improved significantly the quality of audio recordings. One even says that high sampling rates and increased precision have erased any distinction between digital and analog. This paper is also an attempt to answer the question what is better - the lossless or lossy compression, the flac or mp3 format
