Summary/Abstract: Galaluddin Rumi in certain bayts of Mathnawi speaks about the ways of self-cognition. If self-cognition is the basis of all knowledge and if the core of all sciences is to know who you are, what is your essence, where do you go, what is your goal and wish and when the answers to all these questions become the important part of a man’s worldview, in order to reach that goal, it is important to discover the way to reach it. Without the way (tarikat) and the program, the work is futile. Rumi says that if a man begins purifying his inner side from all the filth, and if he succeeds in doing so, many doors of knowledge and cognition shall open in front of his heart. The saying goes ‘’Angels do not enter the house where a dog is’’. That means that meleks/angels do not enter unclean places, there fore not even those who bring knowledge, and consequentially, the way of self cognitionis closed in that situation.
