- Summary/Abstract:In this essay, restraints of the human mind in Mevlana’s critique of ratio are pointed out, and relativity of all teachings that observe truthfulness and the Absolute Truth through narrow horizons of individual cognition, enquiries and doubts as well. Mevlana does not reject the mind – he only points to snares and traps that mind has to avoid and overcome to reach insight. A clear insight is reached when the mind – following the process set by it – overcomes its own doubts, that is, the state of cognition which is reached by the mind limited by its own borders. However, when the mind realizes its own limitations, it becomes open for insights into the Absolute Mind, a collection of principles that inspire each individual mind.The Absolute Mind is wholeness, while the limited mind is a part.Each and every human insight is relative. It can be a sign, a symptom of the Truth, but it does not represent the truth in wholeness, and there fore the meaning of being has to be more than its individual manifestations.

- Summary/Abstract:In this paper, the focus is on two issues: the question of Mevlana’s ancestry and the task of Iranians in presenting Mevlana’s literary heritage in the world. On the basis of a quotation from the work Manāqebol-‘ārefīnby Aflāki, prof. Džalālī in an argumentative manner writes about Mevlana’s Khorasanian ancestry, and he further supports his argument by the fact tha tall Mevlana’s works were written in Persian. On the other hand, by gradual introduction into the world of Mevlana’s poetry, professor shows that, although Mevlana’s thought was shaped by the culture of Khorasanian mental and intellectual mind-set, his world reaches all the way to the homeland of his soul, which is the Najistan for whom the naj weeps so painfully. Iranian cultural workers have a task to show that Mevlana is a descendant of Iranian civilization and rich cultural heritage in Persian by argumentative and academic promotion of Mevlana’s spiritual heritage.

- Summary/Abstract:The essential awareness of the spiritual state of today’s world, and of the question of terrorism, reflects the social pathologies of the modern world− a pathology that is accustoming people to the presence of violence as something quite normal and logical, and where they are all too familiar with danger and the presence of death. So, there is really wide need for studies which will stimulate mutual understanding, inter-faith dialogue and multicultural encounters. Hazrat Mawlana, who is one of the greatest spiritual and literary figures of all time, who advocated unlimited tolerance,and for whom love is the most significant conceptual component in a manner transcending all national, cultural and civilizational bounderies, is undoubtedly the most suitable figure for this task.

- Keywords:Ali Ibn Ebi Talib; Mathnawi; dialogue; rhetorical twist; perfect man;
- Summary/Abstract:In Mathnawi by Galaluddin Rumi there are many different characters. Some of them are fictional, and some, on the other hand, real historical personages from different epochs of the history of humankind. Without any doubt, one of the important personages Rumi deals with in Mathnawiis Ali Ibn Ebi Talib. On the basis of the first two stories in Mathnawi that mention Ali Ibn Ebi Talib, this work points to some basic features of his character in Rumi’s fascinating gnostic epic. Based on the chapter about the Prophet’s will directed to Ali, as well as the chapter concerning the extraordinary incident during Ali’s fight with an enemy – polytheist, through original narrative move, skillful structuring of context of the situation and masterful usage of the stylistic figure of rhetorical twist, Rumi in a relatively short chapter of Mathnawi builds a projection of character of AliIbn Ebi Talib that completely fits the gnostic concept of the perfect man.

- No. of Pages:29
- Keywords:Rumi; Mathnawi; self-cognition; soul; spirituality; spirit; prophet;
- Summary/Abstract:Galaluddin Rumi in certain bayts of Mathnawi speaks about the ways of self-cognition. If self-cognition is the basis of all knowledge and if the core of all sciences is to know who you are, what is your essence, where do you go, what is your goal and wish and when the answers to all these questions become the important part of a man’s worldview, in order to reach that goal, it is important to discover the way to reach it. Without the way (tarikat) and the program, the work is futile. Rumi says that if a man begins purifying his inner side from all the filth, and if he succeeds in doing so, many doors of knowledge and cognition shall open in front of his heart. The saying goes ‘’Angels do not enter the house where a dog is’’. That means that meleks/angels do not enter unclean places, there fore not even those who bring knowledge, and consequentially, the way of self cognitionis closed in that situation.

- Summary/Abstract:The theme of this paper is a tale from Mathnawi about four speakers of different languages who argued about the name for grapes. The author wishes to present how this tale could be useful in solving the question of the nature of a linguistic sign, a problem that incited many debates and discussions in the 20th century, and even some of the most important linguists such as Saussure and Jakobson dealt with it. Rumi, in a practical manner, shows how for most speakers the connection about what would be later called in linguistics a signifier and signified is not arbitrary, but natural and the only possible one. After all, that is the reason for misunderstanding of speakers who are not able to listen to each other.

Other interpretations are exoteric (outer) and they are based on the tradition, that is, on the letter of the text and letter of history. Sufi interpretation is the inner or esoteric interpretation of the Qur’an. This interpretation rarely reaches for something outside the Qur’an itself and for its goal has the unveiling of its eternal message, unchained by time and space, and discovering of its depths and shades of meaning.

(TERMS AND METAPHORS IN TASAWWUF DISCOURSE)
- Author(s):Sabaheta Gačanin
- Language:Bosnian
- Subject(s):Theoretical Linguistics, Islam studies, Semantics
- Page Range:329-342
- No. of Pages:14
- Keywords:discourse of tasawwuf; metaphors; terminology;
- Summary/Abstract:This paper treats metaphors and terminology in the discourse of tasawwuf. Having in mind that tasawwuf is a discipline developed in the scope of Islamic tradition and that its focus is on the esoteric dimension of the Qur’an(ta’wil), which relates to the cognition of the highest rank, an approach to such a discourse needs special effort, both intellectual and spiritual. The language of literature belonging to either theoretical or practical tasawwuf is highly symbolic: theoretical tasawwuf deals with ontology and discusses God, world and human being, while pragmatic tasawwuf tries, just as the ethics, to change human being, that is, to ennoble him.

- Keywords:Mawlana; Mathnawi; Majnun; Layla; Love; Loved One; Loving One; prototext; metatext; hypertext;
- Summary/Abstract:This paper points to places in Mathnawi where Mawlana Galaluddin Rumi presents his view on the unique Path of Love through (prototextual) mentioning of Majnun and Layla, that is, by referring to the characters of this story from Arabic oral tradition, and by placing the already standardized heroes in certain new (and general) circumstances. Identification of the author (but also a reader) with Majnun, whose perspective is inevitable for Layla to be recognized as the Loved One, is only an expression ofthe path (realizable and passable through examples of Mahmud and Ajaz,Zulaykha and Yusuf, Yakub and Yusuf as well) – and it is only a prototext on to which the individual expression is being added (metatext, whether it is an author’s comment, readers reception or the ‘’living’’ of the text)included into the endless ‘’hypertext’’ – by which the Truth presents itself to sons of Adam in a continuous and vivid manner – to those with mind,but who are also willing to leave their reason, when it starts to stifle them.
