Summary/Abstract: Refik Efendi was born in 1814 (H. 1229) in Rogatica (Çelebipazarı), Bosnia.His father is Ali and his grandfather is Hacı Abdullah. Refik Efendi was attending elementary school when his father passed away. Refik Efendi moved to Sarajevo (Saraybosna) after the incidence, where he continued his education and worked as a clerk at the judicial court.Refik Efendi moved to Istanbul in 1833 (H.1249) and attended Amcazade Hüseyin Pasa Medrese and Fatih Medrese.(1) He attended the lectures of Ahıskalı Ahmed Efendi and Gürcü Mehmet Efendi, and acquired certificates (icazet) from both.
