Summary/Abstract: During the inter-war period, the common denominator of the technical progress in the Slovak households and the material aspect of the life of the whole society were the acceleration and completion of the electrification process, which started in the end of the 19th century. The level of electrification is one of the main criteria used for evaluation of the technical development in the Slovak households. Regarding the broader aspects, the achieved stage of progress in energetic is also one of the key criteria of modernisation and higher life and cultural standard both in the cities and the country. At the same time the peasantry had to solve the problem of the poor technical equipment of their farms. With considerable mistrust, farmers started to use the first electric devices. In the Slovak households the process of technical modernisation was rather slow during the inter-war period and the falling behind the Western Europe was substantial.
