Summary/Abstract: After the World War I and the inter-war period, there were huge changes in many areas of life of the Slovak society caused by political, economic, national, cultural and social factors. This contribution deals with its specific sphere - the book trade, publishing, promotion, advertising and distribution of books, illegal trade, censure of books e. g. Books as an article for buyers or readers stand as a main subject of this article and on the backgrounds of this topic it also concentrates on the question how were these facts reflected by the Slovak society during the inter-war period. The aim of this contribution is to provide little mosaic of life, to draw some problems in this area and also to bring up new issues, which can be explored and researched e. g. other issues of book trade in economic, political, national relations, regional aspects of the business, the presentation of books by trade fairs as well as the reading culture of the Slovak society of the interwar period.
