Summary/Abstract: Among other goals, the state authorities in the inter-war Czechoslovakia declared their determination to improve the care for children and youth. However, the dark side of life of this part of population was the problem of its increasing criminal activity. Its share on crimes increased sharply during the World War I and this trend did not change after the war, either. On the other hand, children and youth belonged to the most endangered social groups. Efforts of state authorities to change this path did not bring prospective effect. Criminal activities of youth were caused by several reasons. Among the most significant were the failure of parental care, unsatisfactory social-economic conditions or the unsufficient number of voluntary organizations that took care about children and youth.
