Summary/Abstract: The work describes the importance of the process of digitization of archival documents and older historic literature, for the research of local history on the example of Zenica. In the first part of the work, the author brings his own experience which he collected by establishing successful cooperation with world renown archival institutions, National Archive in Dubrovnik, Vatican Secret Archives and Basbakanlik Ottoman Archive in Istanbul. The author gives examples which show us that different institutions have different systems of work with digitized archival documents. In the second part of the work, the author presents concrete scientific insights in the field of local history research which are the product of cooperation with archival institutions, where we can see all the advantages of the process of digitization for the modern scientific research. At the end of the work, the author gives his opinion about how is the process of digitization going to lead to even more simple process of scientific research in the field of history, while at the same time warns that the researcher is going to have to expand his own knowledge accordingly in this process
