Summary/Abstract: Labour costs are an important part of the costs incurred by financial institutions. Simple procedure for improving financial efficiency is the reduction of employment. However, human capital is a key factor in building a competitive advantage to achieve position in the local and global market. Financial institutions are primarily social systems, in which the importance of human capital is particularly significant. Polish employees are characterized by one of the lowest rates of participation in various systems of lifelong learning in Europe. Expenditures on education, improvement and retraining of personnel are (in labour costs of financial institutions) at the level of 1% in private institutions and 2.4% in the public sector. It is therefore necessary to increase the cost of human capital development in the Polish financial institutions.
