Summary/Abstract: Cottingham’s conceptualisation of integrity as the ‘virtue of virtues’, which assumes that psychoanalytic practices promote integrity is narrowly explored. The claim that psychoanalysis promotes integrity is discussed critically, and I argue that the contrary, citing empirical evidence from psychological research to support my position. The article concludes with general remarks on integrity and its place in a well-lived life.
