Summary/Abstract: The administrative territorial division of the Republic of Bulgaria was created for the rational implementation of state policy, for the implementation of local self-government. In its history, the country's administrative division is constantly changing. In the present study, there is a chronological view of the ideas on the division of the territory into separate units. In connection with the demographic crisis, a new consolidation of the individual territorial units is necessary.
