Neological loanwords in the sharing economy

Summary/Abstract: The pressures of financial upheaval and the far-reaching restructuring of labour relations have in recent years caused the sharing economy to morph into the sharing society, a society striving to live together differently, more collaboratively and with greater solidarity. In many cases what started off as a necessity has ushered in possibilities for an alternative organisation of the way society functions. The different ways in which this reorganisation is expressed and what its limits are will be analysed through the many neological loanwords coming from the Anglo-American world. These neological loanwords (coffice, open space, coworking, gamping, crowdfunding, etc.) are worthy of study from two points of view: they have developed in a wide variety of social situations (the workplace, sharing movements, social relationships) and are morphologically marked by a system of affixes or compounding elements which have become highly productive (co-, crowd-, sharing...). The last part of the analysis is devoted to examining how these elements are integrated into French and to what extent they compete with native elements, which may be spontaneous or imposed by official language planning bodies. // Le concept de partage s’est developpe tout particulierement au cours des dernieres annees, en partie en raison de l’evolution de la societe secouee par des crises financieres, et une profonde restructuration dans le domaine du travail, qui ont fait emerger la necessite de s’organiser de maniere differente, plus collaborative et, dans certains cas, plus solidaire. Dans bien des cas, ce qui a pu etre au depart l’effet d’une contrainte s’est avere comme une nouvelle organisation possible de la vie sociale. Nous examinons ici comment et dans quelles limites cette reorganisation s’exprime, en francais, par de nombreux emprunts neologiques venus du monde anglo-americain. Ces emprunts neologiques (coffice, open space, coworking, gamping, crowdfunding, etc.) sont interessants essentiellement de deux points de vue : ils s’appliquent a des domaines societaux varies (le monde du travail, les mouvements participatifs, les liens humains...) et se manifestent morphologiquement par le developpement d’affixes ou d’elements de formation devenus tres productifs (co-, crowd-, sharing...). Nous analysons aussi comment ils se sont implantes dans la langue d’accueil, en l’occurrence le francais, et dans quelle mesure ils sont concurrences par des equivalents autochtones, spontanes ou officiels.
