Summary/Abstract: The debate about sustainable development provokes many emotions. Its participantslook and put forward often proposed comfortable and satisfactory but short-termsolutions. Nevertheless, to design the future it is necessary to check the whole series ofeconomic behaviors of the past, which stood the test of the time and with had sustainabilityverifi ed. In the article examples related to the agriculture of groove, the chinampaand the agricultural phenomenon of the Palm Grove of Elche are analised. They all offerinteresting concepts as to design of the sustainable development at least in rural areas.
