Summary/Abstract: The paper applies lexical semantic field analysis to the semantic field of possessive verbs and presents a model of its structure in modern Bulgarian. Component analysis is the main method to identify the primitives of the semantic structure of the verbs. Four zones of the field are discussed: a nucleus (the verb имам ‘have’, принадлежа ‘belong to’ and also дам, давам ‘give’ andвзема, вземам ‘take’), a zone close to the nucleus, a zone far from the nucleus and a periphery. The last zone is the main subject of interest because there are many non-possessive verbs which may be used as a periphery of the possessive semantic field – verbs of motion and modal verbs in particular.
