Summary/Abstract: The article discloses the nature and role of social insurance in the context of political, economic and social instability. It examines the social insurance as a mechanism for ensuring social security of the working-age population. The article reveals the essence of social risks, as the basis for the functioning of the social insurance system. In addition, analysis of social risks that affect the socio-economic condition of the working-age population of Ukraine. The clause reviews the functioning of the social insurance system in modern conditions. The key challenges of improving the functioning of the social insurance system were determined as a mechanism to ensure the social security of the population.
