Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of the monograph "Growth to where? (For the irrelevance of the economic growth models) by Blagovest Georgiev. In the center of the research interest is the liberal model of economic growth. The authors' approach to analyzing its applicability includes adequate relation of this model to the first resource basis of economic activity. The economy is constantly looking for models for effective development. However, the question of effectiveness has a fundamental dimension and it is: resources – production – consumption. The studies of the different schools of political economy to solve this fundamental problem are set among the alternatives of market capitalism and central planning real socialism. A place for reflection beyond the third alternative is also left in the study – the ultimate rationalization of human behavior in order to reduce consumption in such a way that it becomes a function of the abilities of the environment to produce goods and to reproduce itself.
