Summary/Abstract: Jacek Dehnel’s article offers a broad context of Polish publishing market with a particular emphasis on the situation of literary translators. The author carries out a critical analysis of Polish translations of Michael Cunningham’s By Nightfall and Alan Hollinghurst’s The Stranger’s Child demonstrating the negative influence of publishing market practices on the quality of translated texts.
