Summary/Abstract: Aging is a very complicated and still not fully understood process. This processoccurs on many different levels. It involves the whole of the human body, including the brain as the central organ generating cognition and functioning ofthe senses. The aging process changes the quality and efficiency of perceivingreality, including perceiving oneself. It also changes one’s position in the socialnetwork, forcing one to re-adapt. These aspects of aging are in the center of mydeliberations. This chapter is focused on the aging of the brain as a biologicalorgan of the human body, on the changes in the cognitive functions taking placeduring the aging process and on the process of adapting to the advancing agingprocess (viewed through the prism of identity and existential crisis). The point isnot to provide a comprehensive review of these issues, but to induce the reader toconsider this important, but often overlooked, life-stage in a broader perspective.
