Summary/Abstract: Both Manuel González Prada and José Carlos Mariátegui analyze in their work the presence of the indigenous and mestizo culture in the modern Peruvian society. They agree on the vision of the indigenous problem as they share the indignation at the current situation of indigenous people and the defense of the original culture although each of them emphasizes different aspects. Both also maintain a critical attitude while evaluating the interrelationship between the indigenous community and modern Latin American society which can be understood as an opposition where the two cultures are separated, as if they were next to each other or covered one by another, but remain, in some way, in an independent state, without merging.
