- Keywords:apparent leísmo; clitic pronouns; pronominal system; mental state verbs; persuade-type verbs; verbs of sensory perception;
- Summary/Abstract:This article analyzes different verb groups and constructions that show alternation in their pronominal system. Since the confusion about the use of clitic pronouns is not due to the loss of case distinction, we refer to this phenomenon as apparent leísmo. According to the prof. Fernández-Ordóñez’s division, we study, in a very detailed way, mental state verbs, persuade-type verbs, verbs of sensory perception, verbs that omit their direct object or whose valency has been reinterpreted, verbs with predicative complements and impersonal se followed by an unstressed pronoun. To finish off this article, we include an analysis of the verb animar, using the Corpus of the Royal Spanish Academy as the main tool.

- Summary/Abstract:The provided data suggests that the use of the Spanish se with unaccusative verbs of change of state and with unaccusative verbs of movement is related to the lexical inheritance of the part-whole relationship in the following four ways: (1) the whole inherits the event from any of its parts: verbs with se; (2) the whole does not inherit the event from some of its parts: verbs with no se; (3) the whole inherits the event from a specific part which, paradoxically, does not participate in the event: verbs with se; and (4) the whole inherits the event from a specific part, which participates in the event: verbs with no se.

The study focuses on the issue in the context of the dynastic union of the House of Austria. - Summary/Abstract:Both Manuel González Prada and José Carlos Mariátegui analyze in their work the presence of the indigenous and mestizo culture in the modern Peruvian society. They agree on the vision of the indigenous problem as they share the indignation at the current situation of indigenous people and the defense of the original culture although each of them emphasizes different aspects. Both also maintain a critical attitude while evaluating the interrelationship between the indigenous community and modern Latin American society which can be understood as an opposition where the two cultures are separated, as if they were next to each other or covered one by another, but remain, in some way, in an independent state, without merging.

- Page Range:89-96

- Keywords:short story; literary genre; modernism; Rubén Darío;
- Summary/Abstract:A short story is a genre full of paradoxes: the human beings have been telling stories since ancient times, nevertheless the short story as a genre is not established till the 19th century; for its shortness it seems simple, but, in fact, it reaches in a limited space an immense narrative tension and it creates an autonomous world. In Hispanic America, the epoch called modernism (the turn of the 20th century) brings an enormous bloom of this genre and it represents a decisive step towards the modern literature. The modernist short story offers two basic types: texts about the role of artists and their relationship with the society; and texts of fantastic nature. Both types of stories can be found in the work of Rubén Darío.

- No. of Pages:21
- Keywords:Andean Spanish; Spanish; evidentiality; evidentiality strategies; language contact;
- Summary/Abstract:The language contact in Andean region introduced into local Spanish some phenomena nonexistent in standard Spanish. One of the grammatical categories in regional native languages that found their place in Andean Spanish is the evidentiality. The aim of this paper is to analyse some expressions and constructions present in Andean Spanish that have evidential meanings, namely some forms of the verb decir (“say”), the pluperfect, and the synthetic future. Their use is exemplified and put in correlation with functionally similar forms in Quechua. An attempt is made to determine their origin and whether they are grammatical evidentials or just evidential extensions of other categories. In particular, a special attention to an explanation of the basic concepts relevant to evidentiality has been paid in the introductory section. In conclusion, a grammaticalised particle (dice, dizque, “says”) was introduced in Andean Spanish, and the verbal system of Spanish was restructured in order to permit grammatical evidentiality marking; this has occurred as a result of transference from native languages.

Our study shows that most criteria established so far don’t allow distinguishing between the fields of word-formation and phraseology. For this reason, we recommend to pay more attention to the functions (denominative or predicative/comparative) of the units in question and their different syntactic combinability.

The Guaraní version was prepared in collaboration of a Paraguayan exile with the Czech publishing house Orbis. Apart from the unique historical circumstances, the translation is an interesting contribution to the process of the formation of the Guarani as a literary language and a target language of translations, because it is one of the first complete works translated into Guarani. The paper presents the historical, political and ideological circumstances of the creation of this virtually unknown translation.
