Summary/Abstract: The article examines the phrasal compounds in Spanish and their delimitation against phraseological units (collocations and idioms) with identical structure. Our study shows that most criteria established so far don’t allow distinguishing between the fields of word-formation and phraseology. For this reason, we recommend to pay more attention to the functions (denominative or predicative/comparative) of the units in question and their different syntactic combinability.
