Summary/Abstract: During the first programming period 2007-2013 Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC), respectively. Local religious branches were beneficiaries solely Rural Devel-opment Program (RDP) Measure 322 "Renovation and development of settlements". Ordinance № 24, art. 4 explicitly recorded activity on "reconstruction and repair of buildings of religious significance and improvement of the surrounding areas, includ-ing landscaping." The aim of the measure 322 was improved living environment in urban areas than rural areas. In this respect, granting financial aid covers 100% of eligible activities performed at maximum grant amount for churches / monasteries, the equivalent of 500,000 euros. A special feature of the local branches of religion is the possibility awarded grants include value added tax (VAT), since almost 100% of them are not registered for VAT and practically could not recover this indirect tax. This exception does not apply to other beneficiaries.
