Summary/Abstract: Contemporary demographic trends contribute to the formation of more and morecomplex family systems. One of those new models is the patchwork family or thereconstituted family, to use psychological terminology. The main purpose of the articleis to present different aspects of the functioning of this type of families. We indicatethe opportunities, chances, challenges and threats that are associated with existing inthis multidimensional and multi-layered blended family system, based on a review ofpsychological and pedagogical literature. Patchwork families differ from other types of families by means of functioning, organization of life, number and character ofrelations between individuals of the system.
