Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to show love as a specific bond between the teacher and thestudent within the process of education. Based on the texts of Grzegorz Piramowicz,Jan Władysław Dawid, Mieczysław Kreutz, Janusz Korczak and Maria Grzegorzewska,love is presented as a condition for educational impact, the aim of education, and asa fundamental element in the professional activity of the teacher. The study also refersto Łopakowa’s concept of pedagogy of the heart as an example of the postulate tobring up loving people. The last part of the study discusses professional competencesof the teacher as seen by researchers in modern pedeutology. The article ends witha question about the possibility of including love as the teacher’s duty within thecompetences of the modern teacher.
