Summary/Abstract: An image of Christians’ slave labor in the Ottoman Empire, presented in the 16th century translation of the Latin turcica entitled Rozmowa z Turczynem o wierze krześcijańskiej… (The dispute with a Turk over the Christian faith…) by Bartłomiej Georgiewicz is probably the first in the Old Polish literature extensive description of the Turkish captivity aspect. This article analyzes Georgiewicz’s description and emphasizes its realism. It is also an attempt to defend the author against the accusation of stereotyping, raised against his writing in some contemporary Polish studies.
