Summary/Abstract: Sociolects are varieties that have developed on the basis of a specific national language which function in particular social groups. The article is an attempt to describe the emergence of social variants of language in terms of micro-phylogenesis. Reflections focus on the similarities between two processes: (1) the development of sociolects and (2) the emergence of mankind’s first language. The factors underlying the genesis of language and its variants include the existence of a relatively permanent group of individuals who feel the need to communicate and the insufficiency of the currently used communication tools, which are subject to specialization and adaptation as a result of relatively conscious human actions. Important phenomena, almost fundamental to both processes, have been pointed out, such as acting by imi tation, constructing conventions, or cultural ratchets.
