Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss the potential benefits of including elements of LSP glottodidactics in higher study curricula in the field of philology and applied linguistics. The author discusses the traditional approach to translation training which focuses on a single (isolated) text comparing it to a strategy based around the notion of professional communication as a fundamental function of a specialised text. The analysis is performed from the point of view of the current goals and requirements of translation training. The article closes with a number of suggestions for improving the effectiveness of university education in this field.
