Summary/Abstract: The Omani settlement in East Africa between 1806-1856 was the last large movement of the people from Oman during the political unity of the state, until 1856 comprising the majority of the coast of East Africa and the area of historical Oman. The purpose of this article is to analyse the examples of cultural change in the areas of every day life: clothing, diet, customs or religious practices. Not only are the reasons and nature of the change explained, but also the elements of the constancy and preservation of the Omani traditions in East Africa.
