- Summary/Abstract:The role of Africans in history of South Africa changed with time. At the beginning of professional historical writing, historiography concerned itself with the European exploration and expansion in Africa, and the colonial conquest of the continent. Suchan attitude prevailed until the 1960s. Only then did the Africans’ place in historical processes of this region start to change. They started to be seen as a force and factorin itself. But it was not the end of the process. Their history became a battlefield of ideological confrontation, and for some, a tool of political propaganda. As a result, today it is mostly seen as the fight against colonial conquest and European domination.

This period was extremely important in the history of Polish research in Africa as at that time the first professional researchers on this continent paved the way for others. In particular, ethnographic research and observation in the 1930s is unique, because of the apogee of colonialism in Africa at that time.

Today, after dozen or so years Bongo Flava is a syncretic genre less similar to American hip-hop and more to R&B music mixed with local aromas. For several dozen years, the first stars of Bongo Flava music have shaped the world views of the young generation, currently trying themselves in creating music.Based on the research I conducted in Iringa (Tanzania), I present the problems the young musicians are currently struggling with, while living far away from the musical capital of the country. I also try to diagnose whether Bongo Flava, widely known today within Tanzania, is likely to succeed internationally.
