Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the profiles of Polish researchers – the first Africanists and travellers who, at the beginning of the 20th century, until the outbreak of World War II, went to the African continent. This period was extremely important in the history of Polish research in Africa as at that time the first professional researchers on this continent paved the way for others. In particular, ethnographic research and observation in the 1930s is unique, because of the apogee of colonialism in Africa at that time.
