Summary/Abstract: Carl Gustav Jung made two journeys to Africa: in March 1920 he travelled to Algeria and Tunisia, while at the turn of 1925 and 1926 he made a five-month research expedition to East Africa. The article describes how the Swiss psychiatrist perceived Africa. By combining two dimensions of expression, i.e. a psychological and a geographical-cultural, he gave Africa features of oneiric space and, thus, at the same time, he made it the shadow of the Self.
