Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to the impact that history and political anthropology have on one another. It presents the thoughts and experiences of a historian of political systems in precolonial Africa, who has been collaborating since the 1970s with the milieu of political anthropologists. The author describes the differences in the development of the two scientific disciplines, their various areas of research, and the different methods they use. He also discusses the removal of the time factor in comparative anthropological studies and the possibility of using this method in historical studies. In addition, he uses examples of studies of chiefdoms and Early States and discusses the problems with borrowing anthropological terminology by historians.
