Summary/Abstract: The article presents the short life of a trendy word post-truth borrowed from English into Polish as postprawda and into German as postfaktisch. The adaptation of the Oxford Dictionaries word of the year of 2016 became the word of the year 2016 in Germany and was used there much more frequently in German than in Polish. One of the reasons of the failure of the word in Polish was a wrong part of speech assignment: the English adjective post-truth, adapted into German as adjective, became a substantive in Polish and seemed to compete with the substantive prawda, one of the basic key words of today’s culture.
