Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to examine the historical development of the adjectives with the prefix über- in German, starting from the Medieval era until the modern times. Given the vastness of research material as well as the extensive time span considered, this paper can only provide a general overview of the historical development of adjectives with the said prefix. The emphasis is mainly put on the change of meaning of a word-formative basis by adding the prefix über-.
