Summary/Abstract: Catholic references appearing in recent German-language literature, including Martin Mosebach’s and Martin Walser’s novels, are connectedwith traditional structures, which originated in previous epochs. At thebeginning of the 21st century, in a new confessional, aesthetic, and literarycontext, having assumed new forms, these structures are nowreturning. In the case of Mosebach, they should be considered as newvariants of a traditional, organic worldview, while in the case of Walser, they should be viewed as an elaboration of an early Romantic concept, which presupposes questioning of that traditional worldview.
