- Summary/Abstract:The article analyses the collages of Herta Müller as an appropriate means of articulating traumatic experiences made under the regime of rumanian dictator Ceausescu. The own liminal position and the contingency of west-german print-media offer a space for poetological reflections and experiments. Müller develops a strategy of playfulness that allows to free traumatic experiences and initiates a process of healing memory. The collages also try to give an answer to the question, to what extent the terror experienced in the Past can be articulated across aesthetic forms.

VANISHING POINTS”, Rosemarie Zens with The Sea Remembers David Adam with Marie Scheibner, among other things, Heike Lydia Grüß with Der getrübte Körper/The clouded body, Yvon Chabrowski with Sun + Land + Diagonal and Sven Johne with Ostpreußen/East Prussia. The works were created in the period from 2003 to 2014 and situate itself in the Czech Republic, Poland and the Kaliningradskaya Oblast. The media of photography and film are preferred. - Summary/Abstract:This article presents ways in which memory can exist in digital texts. We characterize digital representations of the work of human memory, the influence of digital technology and changes in the digital narration on realization of mnemonic function of the text (e.g. the use of the perceptive linearity, intersemiotic repetition, engaging the user in the creation of texts). Structural tricks and textual strategies used to create the textual representation of different existing forms of memory are analyzed on the example of digital poetry and hypertext narration. - Summary/Abstract:In the analyzed Polish mems a selective treatment of culture and a duplicationof stereotypes concerning the appearance of German women,men and the German language can be observed. However, in the memsthere appear new elements which are connected with a clever observationof the changes that take place, and an awareness of the existenceof stereotypical images, and, perhaps, an attempt at referring to themin a perverse way (a series Ładna Niemka – ‘A Pretty German Woman’).In the series with the phrase Niemiec płakał, jak sprzedawał (A Germanwas crying as he was selling) we can notice a play with the typicalperception of German cars, their owners and the arguments of carsalesmen. Therefore, on the one hand, mems strenghten conventionalperspectives, and on the other hand, they oppose them, frequentlyshowing their absurdity, ridiculousness and conventionality.

One of them is the inability to remember, which is directly connected with the loss of identity. One might refer to it as the subjective and collective culture of memory. It is clearly visible in both his texts: the protagonists cannot recognise relations and contexts in society because they have no memories. They are not able to retain elements of the past in their consciousness. Thus their lives are pointless, devoid of a fundamental pillar: memory.

- Summary/Abstract:The article displays the ways of presenting of the cultural memory on the example of three drama plays which have been on the stage in the theatres of Upper Silesia for the last ten years. Common for three plays, a very important component of this cultural memory and its understanding is the family with the essential role of the grandmother and the place of the memory – the kitchen. - Summary/Abstract:In the middle of the 19th century, the city of Łódź has gone through enormous changes caused by the booming textile industry. Within a few decades the minor place became one of the most important cities in Poland, which was characterized by a special cultural diversity: amongst others, Poles, Germans and Jews participated in the unprecedented rise of Łódź. The city became a synonym for the prospect of making money and achieving prosperity, which for most people did not come true. - Summary/Abstract:This paper deals at first with the concept of the archive, mainly in its understanding by Moritz Baßler. Then, the author presents briefly as an example the private archive of the Hamburg’s literary couple Rosa Maria and David Assing. Their legacy is a part of the Collection Varnhagen located after the World War II in the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow. - Summary/Abstract:Shtetl, a mosaic of cultures, languages and religions, was presented by Polish-Jewish artists of the interwar period as a juxtaposition of two worlds: the idyllic world of childhood and the ugly, miserable place of Jewish existence in Eastern Europe. After the Holocaust the portrayal of shtetl became the symbol of the lost world of European Jewry. This essay focusses on two Polish-Jewish artists: a poet Stefan Pomer, who came from a Podolian shtetl and became victim of the Holocaust and an artist Adam Muszka, a Holocaust survivor, who devoted his life to painting a shtetl of his childhood Piotrków Trybunalski, and examines how the memory of shtetl is represented in their works.

The first part demonstrates Jan Assmann's conceptof the memory which concerns the recollection of the dead through special tokens, rites and institutions. - Summary/Abstract:Joanna Przyklenk in the article entitled “Excess of (not) Remembering? About the Polish Memory from the View of the Foreign Languages Teaching” made an attempt to present the interwar foreign languages teaching from the perspective of the discourse studies. The interwar source texts were taken into consideration, in particular these ones that concern teaching German as a foreign language. The collected textual data were used to describe the problem of spreading certain historical and cultural content defining the particular society. Having emphasised the cognitive aspect, the author portrayed the permeation of two discourses: the foreign language teaching and identity discourse. In the analyses she focused on presenting the conditions and aims of the foreign language teaching in the context of interwar education in Poland, at the same time showing the cultural content of foreign language teaching of the given period.

- Summary/Abstract:The article presents selected issues concerning professional development of teachers of German in Poland within the last twenty-five years. Various models of teacher education in Europe have been included here. The first example includes Teacher Training Colleges existing in Poland in those years. Secondly, the Institute of German Studies of Warsaw University is an example of higher education of German teachers. The analysis of in-service development of German teachers involves meaningful statistics as well as selected support institutions, especially the so-called‘ multipliers’. Thus outlined is a perspective for higher education and professional development of said group of teachers.
