Summary/Abstract: In his works, Tankred Dorst deals with the problems and weaknesses of the modern society. One of them is the inability to remember, which is directly connected with the loss of identity. One might refer to it as the subjective and collective culture of memory. It is clearly visible in both his texts: the protagonists cannot recognise relations and contexts in society because they have no memories. They are not able to retain elements of the past in their consciousness. Thus their lives are pointless, devoid of a fundamental pillar: memory.
