Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to look at the various topoi connected with travel and to consider whether the medieval idea of travel, as reflected in German texts and their French sources, contains the motif of return and to what extent such an element would help define the concept itself. The analysis concerns various types of travel: the one connected with love, with broadening one’s horizons as well as with exclusion and exile.
