Summary/Abstract: The article presents selected issues concerning professional development of teachers of German in Poland within the last twenty-five years. Various models of teacher education in Europe have been included here. The first example includes Teacher Training Colleges existing in Poland in those years. Secondly, the Institute of German Studies of Warsaw University is an example of higher education of German teachers. The analysis of in-service development of German teachers involves meaningful statistics as well as selected support institutions, especially the so-called‘ multipliers’. Thus outlined is a perspective for higher education and professional development of said group of teachers.
