Summary/Abstract: This article reflects on the possibility of interpreting Stanisława Przybyszewska’s prose in the context of vernacular modernism (M. Bratu Hansen) and the avant-garde project of “film novel” (J. Brzękowski). Paying attention to Przybyszewska’s inspirations from both popular cinema (early Hollywood) and avant-garde one (German expressionism and Soviet revolutionary film) and to the strategy of “plagiarism” used by the writer, the author of this article emphasises the relation between high and low forms of culture, problematic for modernity. Przybyszewska’s unfinished prose pieces are understood as avantgarde laboratory of new modes of simultaneous vision. Finally, the author scrutinises the issue of gender in narrative quests of Stanisława Przybyszewska.
