Summary/Abstract: The paper concerns the phenomenon of the “new” prose in Polish literature of the second half of the twentieth century, also known as “revolution in literary prose.” It consists of texts of writers making their debut in the seventies and early eighties. The author analyses how the state of exhaustion within the modernist discourse was related to defining gender roles. In conclusion, it is stated that all modification which led to questioning the avant-garde and modernist concepts in literature by the “new” prose also preserved the traditional role of masculinity and the privileged position of the male author in the late modern age during the seventies and eighties in Polish culture.
