Summary/Abstract: The paper describes the artistic and ideological consequences of transferring VALIE EXPORT’s Tapp und Tastkino performance by Net Art artists Eva and Franco Mattes to the virtual world of Second Life. Using the performative activities of artists from mid twentieth and early twenty-first centuries as an example, the paper discusses the potential of neo avant-garde impulses in virtualised culture, their limitations, susceptibility to various hostile takeovers, and the ability to resist the normalisation socio-cultural practices.
