Summary/Abstract: The article presents constructions including pronominal expressions and subordinate clauses in English and their translation into two languages of different structure – Russian and Ukrainian. The material has been excerpted from two novels, one of which was written in 1887 (A Study in Scarlet by A. Conan Doyle) and the other one in 2011 (The Sense of an Ending by J. Barnes). Material subjected to the analysis is varied since both novels include monologues, dialogues, descriptions and digressions. Their translation and commentary concerning applied translation strategies can provide a useful source for translations of other works.
