Summary/Abstract: This paper concerns the second and last novel by Maria Dąbrowska, which appeared on the publishing market no sooner than five years after her death. To date, Adventures of a Thinker has not gained recognition among critics and readers. It has not yet been the subject of a more serious study. Its autobiographical character, however, has made it a very intriguing work. The main characters – Joseph and Eve – are a literary mask of the author, and their love’s twists and turns are a mirrored reflection of the most important love relationships Maria Dąbrowska had with Mariusz Dąbrowski, Stanisław Stempowski, Stanisława Blumenfeld, and Anna Kowalska. The article also focuses on the portrayal of the war, described from the perspective of civilians. It is against the background of the tragedy of the nation that the characters experience the rapture of love, try to live normally and enjoy the small things. However, their personal tragedies are inseparably linked to what is happening in the country. The important role in their lives is played by physical love, and the courage with which Dąbrowska writes about eroticism certainly makes the novel worthy of being restored to the attention of readers.
