Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt at reviewing Old Polish and Old Ukrainian visual poetry in the versificational aspect, mainly in terms of metre. Syllabic works (in Polish and Old Church Slavonic) were taken into consideration, while the works which were written according to the rules of the metric system of versification (in Latin) should be analyzed in a separate study. The textual material was conditionally divided into two groups: monometric poems and polymetric poems. In some cases, there are attempts to explain the motives of author’s application of a certain metre, to point out its semantic charge and its place in the literary practice of that time.
